Chip &Seal surface
Well today was billed as a 'rest day' on wheels, but most agreed that with the very rough surface and wind it was definitely not restful. After spending the night about 10 mi. West of Del Rio, we stopped in town for more suntan lotion and a stop at the bike shop. Most people had miscellaneous items in mind but Beth had a real problem with her right shifter/brake. At dinner we found out the solo bike shop worker had a major meltdown, laid down on the ground crying, Moira from Scotland told him jokes and gave him hugs to get through the job while Beth stood outside to keep people from going in so he could get the job done. It took hours and they all swear it's true!

Another highlight of the day was when Julie (last night's roommate) pulled the April fools day prank we'd planned. She told everyone that the prior night's storm had knocked down some power poles and that there would be a 17 mi. detour, she was very convincing and fooled them all!
Today was about the third time that Bubba's group was on the road with us. Bubba is a very large retired cop who runs bike tours. His group is also going coast-coast, is co-ed and they camp. Anyway, Bubba realized that this was probably our last night in the same town together and invited us all over for an ice cream social with them. We put half in our van and Bubba came with three pickup trucks for the rest of us. I met Dawn from MSP, whose friend married Jay Vandervoort (Merrill), and she introduced me to a fellow tax-widow from NJ.
So here I am, clothes laid out for tomorrow, others drying, and plans for my early bird roommate, Jo, to pickup coffee in the morning. Jo (72) is from Florence, CO and is a retired medical technologist.
