Because it was going to be such a long day we were out on the road by 7:10. We passed by an enormous dairy operation, thousands of cows with roofs but no enclosures, fields of cabbages and other produce, goats and sheep. Eventually the land got drier and soon we were riding past large sand dunes where they hold dune buggy races. It was a decent road with lots of rollers, short hills and dips, but virtually no shoulder. A picnic lunch table was set out for us because there was nothing else available. A bit after that the SAG Subaru got a flat tire so we had an early snack. Shortly after that I felt something funny with my bike and noticed that I had a flat as well. It ended up being a small piece of wire from a car tire which I was able to remove from the tire and replace the tube. Fortunately I was able to get it done fairly quickly and caught up to my riding friend whom I'd accused of having left me for the coyotes. To be fair, I was at the bottom of a hill and she knows I have a way with that sort of thing. In the end we were on the road for 10 hours and ready for a shower, dinner, and dropping.
